Acer Inc., no bodies fool when it comes to competing in the notebook space, have announced their plans to enter the ebook book reader arena later this year.

Acer director Jim Wong, head of the company's IT Goods division, outlined the strategy through an interview with Bloomberg at Acer's HQ in Taipei.

On the eve of Apple's purported entrance into the tablet sweeps-a gadget that would serve ebook readers as well as others-Wong also said the company will furthermore offer "hundreds" of apps online, programs which will support Google's Android program, at present running on several Acer goods, as well as handling Microsoft's Windows OS.

By July, Acer will be expected to make available an electronic-book reader with a 150 mm monochrome display, Mr. Wong told Bloomberg. "Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble; they are American. In Western Europe and Asia-Pacific we have publishers to work with, and nearly everyone of them are subject matter owners," he said. Acer could go up against gadgets including the Kindle , B&N Inc.'s Nook and Sony's Reader and so it will be easy to compare ebook reader models.
